ICAS 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians:
 

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), University of New South Wales
 
Delia School of Canada students can write the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) 2019.  The assessments will take place on March 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2019 at Delia School of Canada during the school day.
 
With limited participation in this assessment, over the years Delia School of Canada students have had promising results.  In 2018, Delia School of Canada students received two High Distinction Certificates and 23 Distinction Certificates.  In fact, one Grade 7 student ranked number one out of 6,000 participants in Hong Kong and Macau.
 
What is the ICAS?
  • an international assessment used in 20 countries world-wide
  • assesses students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, and Writing needed for success in these subject areas
  • questions are multiple choice and short answers for Math, Science and English
Results
  • High Distinction Certificate – top 1% of students
  • Distinction Certificate – the next 10% of students
  • Credit Certificate – the next 25% of students
  • Merit Certificate - the next 10% of students
  • Participation Certificate – for all remaining students
Why write ICAS?
  • students experience writing standardized tests
  • provides students and parents with an independent assessment of the student’s individual performance and his or her performance against other students in Hong Kong and Macau
  • student results can be used in their portfolios and in preparing university applications
Preparation for ICAS
  • in Grades 3 – 6, a session to instruct students how to complete the assessment form
  • After School Tutoring will be available to support students who want to maximize their assessment results by reviewing previous ICAS assessments
What assessments can I write?
  • Grades 3:  English, Writing in English, Mathematics (English or Chinese with Traditional Characters)
  • Grades 4 – 12:  English, Writing in English, Mathematics (English or Chinese with Traditional Characters), and Science (English or Chinese with Traditional Characters)
Eligibility
  • Delia School of Canada student, enrolled and in attendance at the time of the assessments
Fee
  • the cost of each assessment is HK$65 for Mathematics, Science and English; $140 for Writing.
  • fees are non-refundable and non-transferable
  • payment in full with the reply slip is due to the student’s Homeroom Teacher on or before December 14, 2018
